He is set to miss at least a month with a quadriceps injury after a recent knock.

He has played 29 times for Chelsea but has missed 88 games due to his constant injuries, and Man United were right to reject the chance to sign him.

The Belgian has yet to play 90 minutes for the London club. He's OK. He's 100 per cent fit. We will see now.

But the Red Devils swiftly rejected the proposal due to apprehensions about his fitness record.

Lavia has accumulated merely 240 minutes of playing time this season, and even when available, he faces stiff competition from Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo for places in Enzo Maresca's midfield.

Following a sluggish beginning to Garnacho's Chelsea stint, the 21-year-old has registered three goals and assists in his previous three league games.

He has been named in the starting XI for the last five top-flight matches, during which the Londoners have secured four victories.

Meanwhile, the Blues pushed to sign Alejandro Garnacho from United, and Enzo Maresca eventually secured his signature at the end of August as part of a deal worth just £40m.

It's understood that the Red Devils asked about Lavia during the summer, but at no point did Chelsea offer his services.

Lavia had missed a large chunk of the domestic campaign, making just 11 starts in the Premier League, so the setback raised questions about his reliability.

However, football.london understands Chelsea maintained faith in the Belgian, who's under contract until June 2030.

Man United feelings are crystal clear as details from Chelsea transfer meeting emerge

Manchester United are still in the market to sign a new midfielder after reportedly passing up the opportunity to sign Romeo Lavia from Chelsea in the summer

Manchester United reportedly turned down director of football Jason Wilcox's proposal to sign Romeo Lavia in a player-swap deal involving Alejandro Garnacho in the summer.

This week, the Manchester Evening News reported that United rejected the chance of swapping Garnacho for Lavia despite the Chelsea star previously impressing Pep Guardiola.

We are happy with the way he's progressing. Garnacho's future was cast into doubt at the end of last season following his comments about United's season which saw them finish 15th in the Premier League.

The Argentine later secured a £40million move to Stamford Bridge, which Chelsea are understood to have offered Lavia as part of the deal for Garnacho at the time.

Arsenal and the Red Devils were also reportedly interested in signing the teenager during his Southampton spell, and he was questioned about the attention from some of soccer's biggest teams.

Despite his young age, Lavia displayed exceptional professionalism during what was his debut senior campaign, acknowledging the temporary nature of media attention while maintaining his concentration on Southampton's objectives.

He told Sky Sports: "I don't read it because I just don't think about it.

"I just enjoy my football and focus on what we have to do as a club.

The club were heavily linked with Brighton's Carlos Baleba, though a move did not materialise due to his £100million price tag.

The Daily Mail claims that it was Wilcox, who previously worked at Manchester City and Southampton, Lavia's two clubs before Chelsea, who asked about the 21-year-old's availability.

But it's my duty to try to protect also him."

United did, however, register their interest in Christopher Nkunku, whom AC Milan later signed for £36m.

Until earlier this month when Lavia suffer another injury, he appeared to have repaid the faith of the Club World Cup winners.

Before sustaining a muscle problem in Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League, the Belgian had featured six times across all competitions.

Lavia caught the eye, helping the Blues clinch wins over Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Whatever is outside, it is not what I can control, so I don’t pay attention to that. Maresca said: "The main target for Romeo now is to be fit.

"Don't get any injuries.

However, Man United rejected the offer due to concerns over his fitness record, selling Garnacho to the Blues in a straight £40 million deal.

United manager Ruben Amorim wanted a new defensive midfielder last summer, and Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba was on their radar.

However, Man United did not pursue a deal for the Cameroon international, having spent over £200m on new additions to their squad.

Chelsea were hoping to sign Garnacho for less than £40m and were willing to offer Lavia as a makeweight to get the deal over the line.

The Blues manager Enzo Maresca praised the Belgian midfielder in April, insisting he is ‘one of the best midfielders’ when he is fit.

Lavia joined Chelsea from Southampton in 2023 after rejecting Liverpool, but has hardly been fit.

The Italian said: "We feel a shame for him, especially for him. Now, he faces a spell on the sidelines, potentially missing clashes against the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal, and Newcastle United.

Speaking to reporters in Baku, Maresca offered his first thoughts on the injury. So, I would like to have Romeo inside the pitch always.
